Solar Energy

Solar panels for the production of electricity have been installed on our roof at the end of June 2008. We sell all the electricity the Electricity Company (EDF). This installation was done privately, since we live in the same building as the guesthouse.

As our solar panels are quite visible, we get many questions from our clients. We noticed that many people would like to install solar panels as well, but that most do not know how and where to start.

That's why on this page we would like to keep you updated about our solar panel: how we have organised the installation, how much did it cost, how much we produce, how does it fonction and how much we earn.

For those living in the Auvergne: an association is about to be created in order to boost the exchange of experiences: La Boussole Verte.

The installation of solar panels have been done during the last week of June 2008. In August, the inverter has been installed by the electricien of the company. The end of September, the connection branch of the Electricity Company (ERDF) came to connect us to the grid, and, finally, the last work for the connection was done on the 30th of September. In all, it took 3 months to have the panels installed and connected.

The production

We started to produce on the 30th of Septembre 2008. There were days that we were producting up to 12 kW, and there were those very clouded days when we were not producing at all.

In this part of the webpage you will find a table with three montly productions figures, but we still need some more production months before we can give those.

Functionning

A first remark: there is a difference between the meter of the Electricity Company (EDF) and the one of the inverter. EDF counts 10% less. This seems to be normal.
Second remark: the snow remains on the panels (with a slope of 30%). Aiii, all these nice days with a lot of sunshine and no production. This felt very bad.

Income

In February 2009, we still do not have a contract with the EDF. Systèmes Solaires assured us that it takes quite long. But: without contract, we cannot touch any money. Patience!

Depreciation

Without earning any money, there is no depreciation. It will come...!
